Hiding Products From Shop Page? and Digital Downloads Done Better?

If anyone who has had experience can help me out by sharing their experience that will be greatly appreciated. I’m configuring a store and I have a few questions regarding the best set up.

I have a lot of downloads that are part of a series (part 1, part 2,…part 96). The problem is that it completely drowns out all of my other products. Is there a way to hide a certain category from the shop page or only show category images instead of the individual products. For example show an image for audio downloads and another image for books to purchase, etc.

Also, when it comes to digital downloads and I have many parts in the same series, is there a way to have only one product with many parts shown so I don’t have a shop page flooded with parts 1 through 96, instead if I had a drop down on the product detail page where they chose the part they wanted, is that possible?
