Wordfence Scan taking hours….

Hi,

Not having enough memory may be the culprit. Make sure you have plenty of memory available. We recommend 128GB. If you’re below that, request more from your hosting company.

Also, if your hosting account is shared, you might consider disabling Live Traffic. This frees up CPU cycles on shared and underpowered hosts.

can I just check that you really mean 128 Gigabytes?

I had that setting at 1000Mb already.

When you say disable “Live Traffic” do you mean the page that starts with “Your Site Activity in Real-Time” OR under the options page the”Enable Live Traffic View” option?

You can disable it under the Options page or you can try adjusting the update interval if you want to try to leave it enabled.

Sadly, the scans are still doing exactly the same. I’ve tried to sketch this just to illustrate what is happening more clearly….

No matter what setting I am using the scan never gets up towards 100% but time out eventually @ 50=60% complete.

Its clear this is an issue others are struggling with too. Please can you get to the bottom of it properly so others don’t have to waste their time too?

I understand your frustration. There are many reasons that can cause a scan to hang. Usually, it is low system resources or a really large file the scan gets stuck on. Do you have any really large video, audio, or graphics files hosted on your site? You may also have a bad install. Let’s try removing the plugin and all table data. Once removed, please reinstall and try your scan again.
