• I am trying to password protect a page using the standard feature at the top right when editing a page – Visibility: Password protected

When viewing the front end page and entering the password the password is accepted and I see the page in Chrome.

In Internet Explorer the page just refreshes on entering a password. The same happens on Android devices.

In Settings – General my page WordPress Address URL is the same as my Site Address URL.

In Settings – Permalinks my setting is set to Post name. If this is changed to default the password protected page works in Internet Explorer and Android. Setting the permalinks to default is not an acceptable solution for readability or SEO reasons.

This is a big issue for us right now, does anyone have a solution?

    Thanks

Resolved by myself, but worth noting as other will run into this issue.

If your website uses an SSL certificate it is hugely important that the page you enter the password on is HTTPS and not just HTTP, otherwise the page will just refresh on mobiles and also Internet Explorer.

Make sure any links you forward onto colleagues, clients etc have the full “https://”
