core.xxxxx files created

I keep seeing core.xxxxx files created on /public_html/wp-admin, when I upload images. Each file is more than 150mb and eats the disk space. I have to keep clearing it. And sometimes the cropped images have 0kb and cannot be opened. Anyone knows why?
