• Hi, I was using wordpress with a previous hostprovider, and now I’ve switched to a new host provider. I copied every file and the mysql files backup, and uploaded into the server of my new host.

I had the new host accept my website and everything, but now wordpress isn’t working.

    my website is https://www.project-tideas.com
    Here’s the error.

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    Any help?

  • This might be a dumb question, but did you create a database with the same database name? On a lot of web hosting sites there is a prefix added to the db and user (i.e. yoursite_dbname, yoursite_userName).

Check your MySQL setup and be sure it matches the config.php file. Also, the password might need to be an issue.

The database value I got from making a backup when the site was at the old host.

The database value was wrdp1. That’s the zip file I used to restore at the site with the new host.

Checking the mysql, how can I check to see what the database password is? I’m looking at the config.php, and I see a DB name, a username, and password.

The DB name should be the name of my DB, but what about the user and password? Are those my cpanel login? Or something different? Thanks

    A) Did you restore your database backup?
If you did, you must know what the NEW database name and your user/pass are for it.

    B) Did you update your wp-config.php with that new information?

Okay, I managed to get rid of the error. But the page is takign a while to load, and that now it’s just only a white page, and the admin of WP is not working.

Is this expected because the host transfer has to propagate? Or is there something wrong?

    Thanks
