I know this is a 3-month old request but thought I’d post my fix here in case it helps someone else.

I ran into a similar problem and resolved it by unchecking “Optimize?” in the widget settings on the Appearance –> Widgets page.

If you have a heavy traffic site you may want to experiment with decreasing the “Set Transients Expiration (seconds):” value instead.
