Display_posts_shortcode not working with any theme

  • I am running the latest version of wordpress (4.2.1) . The display posts shortcode fails to render (I do have the plugin installed and activated).

    Instead of the rendered version, all I see is:

    [display_posts]

    This happens regardless of the theme I use. Also, FYI, I tried a simple [permalink] shortcode (e.g. [permalink text=test id=1] ) – and it rendered just fine…

    What could be missing?
