    Hello Awesome Clef Team,

I’m not sure what is going on, but suddenly i’m having issues using Clef to access my WordPress sites, all of them. When I attempt to login Clef shows me as logged in, but will not take me to the admin panel. Instead I get the following message:

“The state parameter is not verified. Please refresh your page and try again, you may be experiencing a CSRF attempt”

Refreshing the page, doesn’t resolve this. And the browser Console shows a 403 Forbidden code.

I FTP’d into one of the effected sites, deactivated Clef, and updated it to WordPress 4.2. That didn’t solve the issue either. I then began to switch off plugins to see if there were any conflicts, and Clef started working again after deactivating iThemes Security.

I know this is a sensitive area of who’s responsibility it is to correct cross plugin conflicts, but I really love both of these plugins, and have been using both in harmony for the better part of a year.

Help me Clef Boffins, you’re my only hope ??

    Merci,
    Meagan

Hey Meagan! Really sorry about the issues. We shipped an update that caused problems for a small percentage of users. The latest version of the plugin (2.2.9.3) fixes the issue – can you try updating to that via FTP and seeing if it resolves the issue. Really sorry again!

    Hey Jesse,

Thanks for the really fast response!

I just double checked and I was running Clef version 2.2.9.3 already, and am still having this issue.

    Merci,
    Meagan

Hm, that’s very strange. Can you send me a link to one of the sites you’re having trouble on? You can also email it to me at [email protected]!

    Sorry again!

    Jesse

Jesse, One of my WordPress sites recently updated to 4.2 and I was running Clef 2.2.9.3.

I could not log on admin dashboard, even after it accepted my Clef account, which was running. It asked me to fill out username and password, but refused to accept either (even though my other sites opened via Clef without issue). After much experimentation (and being finally locked out) I had my server techs switch off and delete Clef for the troublesome site.

That allowed me to get in, though now that particular site refuses to load Clef on again. Any ideas?

Hey Rob, really sorry about the issues. Can you try this version of the plugin, I’m pretty certain it will fix your issue — we are releasing it as 2.2.9.4 tomorrow!

    Best,
    Jesse

Thanks, Jesse. I use WordPress hosted on my site via Serverpoint and have only added plugins automatically from within the dashboard. So I’m not sure how to add this one myself, having limited tech knowledge. I might wait until you release it tomorrow. But thanks for sending it! Much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Rob

Actually I figured out how to install via the dashboard, but when I tried to load it I got the same message as before, that is:

    Could not create directory.
    Plugin install failed.

    @robhood

For future reference. When updating/uploading WordPress plugins via the dashboard, you much deactivate and delete files, before uploading the package to the server.

You’re getting the “could not create directory” message because it already exists. This is true of all plugins in WordPress.

@jesse, thanks for all the awesome work ??

    @meaganthefoodie

Thanks, Meagan. I was beginning to suspect something like that. The trouble is the plugin doesn’t appear on the dashboard list nor can I see it via my FTP site. I think it’s sitting somewhere out of sight on the server and the tech guys have simply disabled it so that I could gain access the dashboard. I guess I’ll have to get them to do it.

    Thanks, anyway.

    Hi Jesse,

I have experienced the same thing as some of the other folk in this forum. I only just experienced Clef for the first time two days ago and it seemed to work OK. I am quite new to WP and most likely won’t understand anything more technical than the word ‘Dashboard’!

Yesterday, Clef logged me out after an hour (because I didn’t realise that I could increase the time) and I lost a hours worth of work (typing a blog entry) on WP because I went to ‘update’ what I had written and discovered that I had been logged out automatically, and upon logging back in found that what I had been writing had been deleted without a trace.

Being quite annoyed at this, I then deleted the Clef app off my phone. In the process it asked if I wanted to deactivate Clef on WP and I said yes. I went back to WP to discover that Clef was still there and now I had no way of logging in at all since it did not give a manual option. So I reinstalled the Clef app to my phone only to be told that I can’t use MY email address because it is being used by another user already (me from yesterday!).

So I put in my secondary email address, got the app synced just fine, and Clef seems to think I am now logged in to my WP admin for the website I am working on. But I’m not. Now there IS an option to login manually, but for some reason WP is no longer accepting my usual login details that it was accepting before I chose to use Clef two days ago. Maybe its because I have loaded Clef the second time using an email that is different to the one that is associated with that WP website. I don’t know. I am trying to resolve it with the help of the support guys at GoDaddy, their service so far has been outstanding by the way, always available and they really go the extra mile. Hopefully they can help me, or maybe you can?

    Hi,
I saw this thread marked as ‘resolved’?
    Is this true?

Do we have an incidence resolution to the issue ie. what was the cause?

I just experienced this issue as well (being a new Clef user) for my site.
Unfortunately the recovery URL did not work.
I went into my site via FTP to delete the clef plugin of course to remedy the issue, however, I really liked the tool and would love to reinstall it, but not if I’m having to go into FTP to kill it.

This of course will not be acceptable performance once we go Live. Wondering what the next step is short of just reinstalling and crossing my fingers.

Concerned and now on the fence user.
    Lee

I was never able to get my Web page restored in any convenient way, but rather had to get the guys at GoDaddy to cut and save whatever content they could from the file in the background of the program and email me the document to work from once the page was reinstalled. Not good news I’m afraid.

    sorry to hear that @bjenkin4180
well hopefully WP starts implementing a cross plugin/theme compatibility check, much like they do for the Core WP (based on customer feedback and the publishers UAT testing).

it’s not the ideal way to install, cross fingers and hope for the best as an acceptable process. developing in a sandbox is of course good method, but I’m pretty sure many of the casual users do not have the time nor resources to do this

    cheers and best of luck.
