• Having a bit of a weird problem and I don’t know what’s caused it.

I have a sample site (https://twood.todaysgripes.com/ using StairWay Theme) on the same hosting (but separate installs, not multi-sites) as my 2 active sites. The two active sites appear to be fine.

The sample site was finished in early April (3rd I think) and everything was running fine during the week after. Since then I haven’t made any changes to this installation or the site. Today, none of the images appeared on the site (other 2 are showing images fine).

When I logged in, all of the files in the media library are showing as little blue squares – missing images. But when I check the image file for this install in my cpanel, the images are there.

Not only aren’t the images displaying in the media library, any images related to wordpress itself (the platform images) do not display in the admin dashboard either.

I called my hosting company, they advised me to update to troubleshoot by trying a different theme. I did that, with the same result.

They suggested deactivating plugins, and I did that. Still the same. No images anywhere, not even dashboard images

Then they suggested restoring the permalinks to default. I did that. No change.

Then suggested upgrading to wp 4.2 and I did that. Still no change.

I did read through another thread, but it referred to a similar problem, except that referred to the update for when it went to 4.1.2 – I was already using that without any issues. When I first installed WP it was already at 4.1.2 and I didn’t update until today, when trying to fix the missing images that were working fine up until a few days ago.

I do have a backup from early April, but to be honest, I have no idea how to install the backup. These sites were an automatic install using something on my cPanel called “installatron” it doesn’t seem to have any way to use a restore option.

I considered cloning it, but I assume it’s just going to clone whatever is causing the errors.

I don’t know how to fix this.

  • Try checking the file permissions –

No, it’s not that. It’s the same permissions as all my sites and the ones suggested on that page you linked.

    THanks.

    I get this message:

You don’t have permission to access /ImageFix/StaffSmall.jpg on this server.

Perhaps the image file paths are wrong?

Oh, no – that isn’t one of the images in the media library. I’ve been testing uploaded manually images in separate file folders adding the img src links to see if I can any image to work – that’s one of them. They don’t work either, and when uploading that one, the permissions are exactly the same as those in my other two websites.

The permissions are set the same as they were set when it was working properly.

I don’t see any way to set a specific permission for an image folder.

All the image display (even inside my dashboard – no images show, not even those little icons for the plugins or for wp or anything) is broken in this.

It’s not the theme either, as far as I can tell. I installed the theme on a new installed with a different name, then copied the edited theme file from this broken site to my new test setup. The images display there just fine, so the theme is okay.

Try deactivating ALL plugins and switching to a default theme.

I found a way to set permissions for the folders, but it’s already set to what it should be – it’s the exact same as my other sites.

This site has a ton of images https://free-3d-textures.com
This site has some small images https://todaysgripes.com

They have the same permission settings, and as far as I know, people besides me can see them. People download images from the first site every day.

Those two installations of wordpress are the same, except I didn’t update them at all (they’re set not to update, thank god for that).

I can’t figure out what’s broken in the sample site. I hate to think about doing it all over again but I’m thinking I might have to.

I’m going to try actually deleting the plugins, since there’s only a couple on this site but I expect that won’t help either. These are the same plugins I’ve had installed since I set the site up, and I hadn’t updated any, and none were really image related plugins.

I already did that. I it didn’t work. That was what my webhost instructed.
