I have recently launched two websites in my home town of Glen Ellen, CA. One is Glen Ellen Blog and the other is Glen Ellen Times (both are dot com). My thinking was that the blog would be for guest writers and the “Times” would also be for guest writers and local news on a personal level concerning our community. Both are a great leap out of my comfort zone as I have never attempted this type of thing before but, as is my wont, I leaped in with both feet hoping to swim and not the opposite.

When I state that this is out of my comfort zone I mean that I am not sure of how best to configure both sites for the efficiency and security of allowing guest writers and locking down the sites so that not just anyone from somewhere can screw things o=up for me.

Which plugins and measures does it need to do what I plan to do and still keep the sites secure. I have tried BuddyPress on the blog and it is fine but I am not sure that it will allow for publishing articles by guest writers. I used Ultimate Member on the “Times” site but the same goes for that. IE, I want to be able to allow people who are writers to be able to post articles on either website whenever they want to without compromising security. There must be a way but this is new to me and I fear I may be fumbling rather than asking for help to do it right. Thanks, TCrowe

Have you considered just starting them out as Contributors?

They’ll only be able to write, edit, and delete their own posts, but they won’t be able to publish them (you’ll have to).

Alternatively, the Author role gives them the power to upload files and publish their own posts.

From a security standpoint, there really isn’t much they can do besides publish the type of article you don’t want them to.

As I just launched the website I wanted to know my options for authorship by others. It is at :https://glenellentimes.com should you want to take a look at what I have thus far. I have Ultimate Member as the social hub for the site but am not married to that software by any means. I have BuddyPress on the Glen Ellen Blog and I still have not found what that can do as to contributors.

I will start out with the Contributor label and see how that goes.

Thanks for taking the time to fill me in. I am old with WP but new to a more socially climatized site such as this so just picking my way through the gaggle of options as of now. TCrowe
