• I recently updated to WordPress 2.2 using Fantastico through my web host and was seeing the character ? in the middle of my pre-update posts. I followed the advice on the forums and changed my wp-config.php file to comment out these lines (these are how they appear after being commented out):

    //define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);
    //define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    I have also tried deleting them and still end up with the question marks.

    My problem is that now there are question marks scattered throughout all of my posts. I’ve looked on the forums and don’t see a fix for this. Can someone help? Here’s a link to a post that has been especially hard hit: https://eviljulie.com

    I should note that I do NOT copy and paste from Word; all posts are written on the WP editor. I’ve also tried deactivating all plugins with no success. Please help!

  • If you refer to the post titled Reward time – try NOT to type as with the old typewriters ??
    i.e. NO two spaces after a period. Just one. Does that help?

    To an extent, in that I can do that going forward. What can I do about all the question marks that are in the blog now, however? Going back through and replacing them all would take forever.

    I’d try to figure out what is there in the database and running the “search and replace” plugin.

    However, it is still not clear to me: did you dlete those two lines from the wp-config… or just “tried”. They MUST be deleted if it was an upgrade!

    I deleted them at one point, then replaced them and “commented them out” using //. According to what I’ve found on the forums, these are both valid fixes.

    When you say “try to figure out what is there in the database,” could you be more specific? I don’t wade through files very often, and my knowledge is of them is definitely at a n00b level. Thanks for your help!

    Also, I just tried to run the search and replace plugin and it’s not working. Not sure why, but the ? character is still sprinkled through the posts.
