Integration with tiny chat tablet application
-
Thank you for the app! The browser in my site works perfectly.
I have clients that I would like to be able to join video chats via their tablet. I did find an application for tiny chat on android and apple but I can’t seem to figure out how they can access the chat through the web browser where the plugin is working.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Noah

Hello Noah,
Unfortunately this will not work in the browser on a tablet/phone etc as android stopped supporting the Adobe flash player,
The TinyChat App on Android and iOS have the flash player integrated in to the application and it is not possible to do that on the browser version,
On my next update I will provide an error for users of Android/iOS users,
Sorry I couldn’t help more.Regards,
Rudder.
Thank you for the prompt reply. I just want to make sure I was explaining the problem accurately. I understand that I can’t use my mobile device’s browser to work with your plugin.
I read on your description that the chatroom the plugin creates is the URL of where it is pasted on your website (this way it is a unique room). My question is, can you change that chatroom to a different name?
When using the tinychat app on my Ipad (downloaded from apple store), it will not join a room such as “https://mysite.com/chat”. You can only type names ie. “Chatroom1” rather than URL’s. Please let me know if what I’m asking is still not possible.
Also, I cannot seem to sign in using facebook. I want to buy the pro version of tinychat to enable full screen viewing but I can only login as a guest. Please advise.
I appreciate all your help and will definitely write a good review of this plugin!
Thanks,
NoahHello Noah
You’re correct it will not work in the browser on tablets, It is possible to buy a browser with flash enabled but these are only worth it if you use it a lot, Puffin is one such browser.
Also using the Facebook or Twitter logins do not work due to the restrictions on the TinyChat API itself, It only allows the tinychat.com domain to be used, I’m hoping that they fix that at some point and allow any domain.
Also if you’re willing to edit the plugin in the editor then you can create your own unique room, This is based on the tinychat room, At the time I use the local domain so there is less likely going to be a conflict on TinyChats domain, Just in case the name already exists, But if you want to stop this then you just need to remove the code from ([room: “
<?php echo htmlspecialchars($_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'],ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8') ?>
“
Just remove that and then add your name that you want so it would then display ({room: “example”,Or if you want I’ll create you a updated version so you can use until I update the code to allow you to select any room name, Just let me know what room name you require and I’ll post the link on here for you to download.
Also this plugin is full screen anyway so you will not need to pay Tinychat anything.

Rudder.
Thank you so much for the support! I just wrote a review and hope to check out some of your other plugins.
The room name I would like to create is “sneaky rafiki”
I would greatly appreciate if you helped me set this up.
One quick question regarding the full screen. I understand the page is full screen, however, after broadcasting, I see the video in the page (which is not full screen). When broadcasting a youtube video or from your camera, there is an option to display that video full screen. When I click this option it tells me I need to have Tinychat pro version. Is there a way to get the video full screen?
Best regards,
Noah
Hello Noah
I’ve now just edited the code to make it so when you broadcast the video should be larger,
Also as the plugin removes white space and special characters then the room name will be sneakyrafiki
You’ll need to disable my WordPress Video Chat plugin and delete it and download this, install and activate, The room will then be the name you requested.
Let me know if this is adequate for you.
Regards,
Rudder
Also Noah,
If you now use TinyChat app on the iPad or any other device you have the app installed on, Where it say’s enter chat room you just enter your name you wanted, sneakyrafiki and it will take you to that room that is now hosted on your domain.

Rudder
Ok I got the new version you sent up and running.
I can now get on with my Ipad and Iphone and the video is much bigger! It looks great!
Just one question and this might be with the tinychat app itself or apple. When I broadcast a youtube video from my desktop on my website, it does not broadcast to the iphone or ipad. It will broadcast video from the camera, just not the youtube video. Do you have any suggestions why this might be the case? I have been searching in the options for awhile and saw one setting that was a checkbox next to “play youtube videos”. The box is checked yes however but still no luck.
Thanks again for everything! You have really gone above and beyond and I appreciate it. It’s really refreshing to find this kind of support.
Regards,
Noah
I will check this and see if I can come up with a solution,
I think it’s down to the App being hosted on TinyChat and only displaying the chat if users are on TinyChat and not your domain, I’ll post back once I’ve finished testing and if I can come up with a solution for you.Hello Noah,
When you’re on the TinyChat app you need to have video selected at the bottom on the chat screen for the YouTube video to display,
I’ve just tested this and the video worked for me.On the App you have Video – Chat – People – Invite just make sure video is selected to display the video.
Regards,
Rudder.
Thanks Rudder,
That’s odd. I have been testing on Ipad and Iphone and no success. I have tested using both wifi and 4g. Did you test with the apple application? I am on the video section of the app and when I broadcast a youtube video from my desktop, I see a youtube icon appear and then disappear. The video itself never plays. I am working with a slower connection here at work but will test again on a faster router later but I don’t think that should really matter.
I actually just texted using the application with a room directly from tinychat.com and still no youtube videos display. Therefore, it appears to be a problem with my devices or with tinychat itself and not your plugin.
I still wanted to send this to make sure you were testing with an apple product and getting it to work. If so, I will contact tinychat directly and see what the issue might be.
Thanks again,
Noah
Hello Noah,
Indeed you are correct, I’ve tested on Android, Windows and Apple devices and the only issue is with the Apple devices,
I’m not sure if they’ve recently updated the app like they have with the android version, I’ve checked on-line and the issue seems to be with the TinyChat app for Apples iOS devices only.It seems the Apple version has a lot of issues still, I know they’ve only recently just fixed the android version so hopefully a fix for the Apple version will be on it’s way soon.
Regards,
Rudder.
Just confirmed other people are having this issue with the apple app as well.
If you go to https://www.appster.org/app/tinychat-451331904 and search youtube, you will see that it’s with the app. Apparently it won’t display youtube or at least other users are reporting this as a problem.
But I’m not sure what it could be if you are getting it to work. I’m sending an email to tinychat and can let you know what they say if you would like.
Thanks,
Noah
Yes – thank you for all your help.
Tinychat is still improving. I’m guessing they will update the apple app and fix some of the bugs at some point. In the meantime, at least everyone with androids and desktops should be fine.
Regards,
Noah
Well if I come up with a fix for this then I’ll let you know,
In the mean time hope you enjoy using my plugin.Regards,
Rudder.
