Can not update deny list

  • Hi all,

    I have multiple sites from the same provider, theu all run stop spammers.
    I can update the deny list on one site but on my other sites i cant!! I get a 400 Bad requist.
    Its strange because they all run the same version of wordpress and the same version of stop spammers. Any ideas??

    I want to block some extensions like yahoo.com/.ru/.po/.hun

  • The size of the deny list is an issue. If it is too big, you run out of memory. Hosts limit the size of the form data submitted, this causes a bad request. A very big form submit will fail.

    Cut down the size of the deny list and let Stop Spammers do its thing. It will stop most everything. Only use the deny list for persistent spammers who slip through the regular checks. Most spammers will appear on StopForumSpam.com in a day or so. You can help by reporting them yourself and then they don’t need to be in your deny list.

    First of all thanks for the great plugin, its works fine, but i cant even remove words from the “Spam Words List” nor the “Bad User Agents List” if i want to, everytime i get the 400 error.

    I want to delete every user that is using a yahoo.com email address, im getting sick of all them spam users ??

    I am pretty sure that it is the size of the form post that is killing you. Some hosts limit it as low as 4096 bytes in order to prevent DDOS attacks.

    Open notepad and copy the lists into notepad.

    Delete everything in the text boxes.

    Press submit and see if it comes back.

    If that works, start putting things back a little at a time.

    If that doesn’t work I’ll add a “reset to defaults” for the lists on the diagnostics page and see if that helps.

    I deleted all the content in both spam word list & bad user agents list and i was able to save (Smile) some “critical” words. I counted and i can put a maximum of 80 words in it.

    Now i have to find out wich bots and spam word are used the most.
