I have installed the wordpress 2.1.2 with FANTASTICO in a server.
When I tried to visit my web site I see this message:

    “Can’t select database

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the palosdec_wrdp1 database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?”

Does anybody know what to do?

  • Have you checked with the database tool in your web admin panel that Fantastico did actually create the database?

It’s a while since I last used Fantastico to set up WordPress for me, but I do seem to remember that it creates the database etc.,

I’d check that it exists – and also whether it’s palosdec_wrdp1 or just wrdp1 …

I’ve checked it. The databse has been created by FANTASTCO with the name palosdec_wrp1.

At least that is what FANTASTICO says during the installation

Can you see the databases – does the webadmin panel that you have let you see them (is there a button called “phpmyadmin” or something like that?

Also, I’m guessing this is just a typo – but you’ve said that the db that Fantastico says it’s created is “palosdec_wrp1 – but that it’s looking for palosdec_wrdp1 … just check that they are actually the same!

Yes, it was a typo, the database I can see with phpmyadmin is palosdec_wrdp1.
But de database is empty. No tables

can you help me im with freehostingnow.com and its saying the same thing ?? helpppppppppppppp

Meanwhile you are sitting there and waiting for “help”… you could have done 20 manual installations in that empty database.

Check via your control panel that the files have installed (you should have quite a few files in the root directory of the blog, and 3 more folders)

As Moshu says – do it manually …

so, check that Fantastico has created the right info in wp-config.php (probably it has)

Now go (in your browser) to ….. wp-admin/install.php – and see if that will start up & trigger the tables to appear in the database.

Have a look at the installation instructions on this site – it’s really pretty easy to do manually (and you’ll probably get the latest version – which you mayn’t have with Fantastico

I’ve just checked the results of FANTASTICO installation with the manual and I have modified something. Just give permissions to the user of the database.

    Now every thing’s right.

    Thank you very much.
