This looks like an awesome membership plugin, but before I give it a try I’d like to know how compatible it is with w3 total cache, and which caching settings should be disabled.

I have a popular news website which attracts thousands of visitors everyday. Unfortunately it’s on shared hosting, which means that caching is required so as not to upset my webhost or overload their servers with too many mysql requests.

Within w3 total cache I have page caching, object cache and browser caching enabled. I don’t use minify because it conflicts with my website theme.

I would like to use your plugin to restrict access to some posts/articles and deter content theft/copying.

Would I still be able to use caching with this plugin and if so which forms of caching would work or not work?

Oh, I also use a CDN and web protection service courtesy of SiteLock. I would also want to prevent spam registrations from bots etc.

    Hi stevenpreece,

If your site is live and has lot of visits, I recommend that you try out UM on another clean install with the same settings of cache enabled. If It works for you, you can use it for your production site. We have added a cache prevention on our dynamic pages which should make the plugin compatible with cache plugins however the minification settings won’t work. Thanks

Thank you for your reply. I’ll try out your recommendations when I have more time at the weekend. Can I also ask whether protected content includes a login form, so that visitors don’t have to leave that content to register or log in, and also whether it could affect SEO and google/bing search engine results? If protected content does not include a login form, can those visitors automatically be taken back to the url they landed on, or tried to access, after logging-in/registering?

    Thank you.

Yes, you can protect URL – user is sent to login page after login they’re taken back automatically to protected url.

    Thanks

I’ve tested the plugin with caching enabled and it seems to work fine as long as ‘do not cache pages for logged in users’ is checked in w3 total cache. However, people are not redirected back to the post they were trying to view after the log in. They are simply presented with their account page and have to navigate to the post themselves.

The protected post should have in the access setting the option to be redirected to post after login.

    e.g. domain.com/login/?redirect_to=post_url
