Sucuri Scanner deactivation

    Hi, I installed the sucuri scanner + plugin. Does it do anything after I log out of my dashboard? I don’t like to leave plugins running if they are not doing anything. I like to turn them off so they won’t slow my site down. Do you recommend that I leave it activated, or is there no difference if I deactivate it?

    Yes, I already know that if it is doing anything it will have a very minimal impact on the site, but I want to know what the plugin will be doing in the background once I am logged out.

  • Yes, the plugin does many things no matter if your session finished. The plugin is composed by two major components, one is a malware scanner and an event monitor, plus a list of complementary tools.

    The event monitor is the only tool that is executed automatically without human interaction, you can configure the frequency from the “Scanner Settings” panel located in the plugin’ settings page, or disable the scanner completely from there too.

    There is another part of a event monitor that is managed by WordPress itself so there is no way to deactivate it unless you want to delete your site. You probably already know that WordPress provides a list of actions that can be intercepted to execute complementary tasks, many plugins and themes use these actions to provide extra functionality. You can go to the “Alert Settings” panel located in the plugin’ settings page and disable the notifications for the events intercepted by the plugin.

    So in conclusion, when you close your session the plugin keeps executing a file system scanner and intercepting events triggered by WordPress when a user does something in your site. And as I explained above, the plugin does the same things when your session is alive as when it is closed.
