• I am absolutely new to all of this – coming back to it after a long while away from WP.

I’m trying to post a comment and do not know my username…

How can I find this out…?

  • Hi Joanne,

You should be able to find this out by taking a look at your database. Refer to the first couple of posts on this thread.

… it’s amazing how people pass information onto someone who is not adept in a particular area, as if an imbecile should be able to work out what it is that they’re talking about…

Where exactly do I find my database then…?

I am actually none the wiser from your response and I wonder whether you would be able to make a deliciously, edible paella Eric, if I simply gave you a one sentence instruction/answer…

Yes, I agree, I should have come up with a more user friendly response to your question. However, insulting does not encourage help from other users, especially on a volunteer support forum such as this.

This article should help you to find your username. You can access phpMyAdmin from cPanel. If you need help accessing cPanel, your host should be able to help you get to it. Hope everything goes well!

At a first and very shallow glance, your site appears to have only one user. That username appears to be “admin”. Your version of WordPress is also out of date and no longer supported (and is also insecure).

[edit] ..It also appears that you’ve already been hacked with SEO spam.

Pop this into your browser address bar and view the returns.

    I apologise Eric.

My intention wasn’t to insult you at all. I’m very grateful for the time you’ve taken to respond to my question, as a complete novice to all of this… But by your own admission, your answer wasn’t as user-friendly as it could have been, but I thank you anyway.

    Clayton,

Thank you very much for your very helpful reply.

I needed my username initially because I wanted to post a comment and was asked for it to go live. As my site is now out of date, no longer supported and is also insecure and been hacked! it was probably all a waste of time and my comment has probably not been published anyway…

I’m completely out of my depth with where/how to rectify the situation.

This whole discipline is not my forte at all and wondered if you could point in the direction of some very ‘user-friendly’ instruction…?

I’ve put the link into my browser and am very worried by what I’ve seen.

Thank you again – your help is very much appreciated.

    Jo.

… I actually forgot to say that the website was created over a year ago, by someone I thought would be maintaining it on a regular basis. I now see I somehow have to perhaps begin again from scratch…

    … Oh my goodness!!!

Is this the reason I keep getting continuous emails containing Chinese writing etc… with the below in the Subject Bar?

And was I supposed to be responding to these…?

    I’ll give it a rest now…

There’s no straight forward or rudimentary answer when it comes to a hacked site.
