permissions issue with adding rss feeds?

  • I suspect there may be a permissions issue with adding RSS feeds. Currently, all preferences are set to author, including Feeder menu (but excluding Preferences menu). The RSS import module is also enabled. When I go to PressForward > Add Feeds as admin, everything works fine, but when I attempt to add a feed as author role (which is the role my students have on the site), they attempt to save a feed and get “Cheatin’ uh?” screen. This basically means that my students cannot contribute feeds to monitor, a big drawback in the overall process.

    Very shortly we will be releasing version 3.5 which will help to clarify user permissions and roles using PressForward. Currently, by default, only users assigned the “administrator” role in PressForward are able to Add Feeds. For most users, they want Contributors to be able to view and nominate content, while administrators can add feeds and send nominations to draft.

    By tomorrow morning, you should be able to update the plugin to version 3.5. When you do, as an administrator you can go into PressForward-> Preferences->User Control. On the User Control page, go to Feeder Menu and select “Contributor.” You will want to go back into the user profiles and set your students’ user roles to “Contributor.” Contributor roles will include all the privileges of Author plus those for the PressForward Contributor role. In other words, as “Contributor,” students should continue being able to do everything there were able to do as “Author” but also add and edit feeds.
