  • register it where?

    wordpress.com?

    You’ll get better luck asking OR searching on their forums.

    Gee Whooami thanks for the terrific information, but heres the problem, I’m not quite following this, .org is for wp hosted on my domain, correct? and .com is hosted on wp domain, so this being the case and 2 of my self hosted blogs being manageable from my wp.com dashboard I am a bit confused, I am well aware that I can search the .com site also but to no avail there

    well, here’s my confusion. Why do you expect to find instructions for something thats done over there, here?

    Heres my own short answer, and this is just common-sense to me, that said, I might very well be wrong.

    WordPress.com doesnt give a crap what kind of server a site is on. it doesnt know the difference between shared or dedicated. So, since you have successfully “registered” 2 other blogs, why NOT follow the same directions you used for those 2?

    Unless im not understanding what this registration process entails,I dont see the problem.

    and please lay off the sarcasm, I WAS trying to be helpful, but I can return the sarcasm just as easily.

    The first 2 were installed through a program similar to fantastico, an automated installer offered with some hosting, therefore I don’t know how they were registered and made available though the .com Dashboard thats what is confusing to me.

    I am familiar with the self install I’m just curious as to how two self hosted blogs got registered there. The reason I would ask here as seems “common-sense to me” is the blogs are self hosted therefore a .org question.

    So if I go to .com and ask why my self hosted blogs are showing in my .com dashboard wouldnt they say go ask .org, thats where the blogs are hosted!

    Opps missed the Sarcasm, Sorry about that, and I do appreciate your help, more frustration than sarcasm

    umm, Ok, I understand your question a little better.

    I know what fantastico is, btw.

    I can tell you that installing via fantastico does not put your blog into anything at .com

    So we are clear here — what exactly are you talking about when you refer to registration? Are you talking about the stats? The domain thing? What specifically?

    Thanks,

    If I go to .com and log in as a user you come to your log in page, across the top it says from right to left,

    ACCOUNT DASHBOARD NEW POST PRESS THIS BLOG INFO

    Under dashboard it shows the 2 self hosted blogs that were installed with the auto installer but not the blog self installed, is there a reason you know of or a better question might be is there an advantage of it being listed here?

    TY

    well, I have a wordpress.com blog and I dont have any of that anywhere in my admin panel

    I have across the top:

    Global dashboard:

    * Dashboard
    * Profile

    * Dashboard
    * Blog Stats
    * Blog Surfer
    * My Comments
    * Tag Surfer

    and under my normal dashboard:

    * Dashboard
    * Blog Stats
    * Blog Surfer
    * My Comments
    * Tag Surfer

    this just reinforces why this is better asked over there ??

    (@richardwschulz)

    yes that would be the one.

    and as this post :

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=11267&page&replies=4#post-79967

    states, ONLY .com blogs get listed there.

    Ok, I finally see where you are up above. Again, that makes no sense since clearly you are not allowed to add blogs that are self hosted to the global dashboard.

    Ive even looked at the register another blog link.

    Thats it but I have 2 that are self hosted listed, weird, Oh well won’t try to figure it out.

    Thanks

    I would consider yourself lucky, I guess. That or you discovered some very odd bug.

    Hmmm. Actually, if you have installed the blog stats plugin (from wp.com) then your self hosted blog will appear on your wp.com dashboard…

    Good point moshu – not only is it in your Global Dashboard, but is it also appearing in a public profile there? Just wondering cuz I don’t really want my link linked on that site.
