    Hi!
I’ve prepared a Edin child theme, with custom CSS, and languages folder with portuguese (pt_PT) language files (.po and .mo) with translated string “Read More”.
But, somehow, the theme shows the english string in the front page…
    Can you help?
    Thanks! Best regards!

Hi there, if you got the Portuguese .mo file from GlotPress, it looks like the string “Ler mais” for “Read More” is still pending there and has not been validated – you can see it’s still in yellow here:

    https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/pt/default

You could either edit the string yourself in the .po file and regenerate a .mo using a .po tool like Poedit – https://poedit.net/ – or try the Brazilian Portuguese version instead:

    https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/pt-br/

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi Kathryn.

Seems to me that’s something is failing… Can’t understand what nor where to look.

I’ve already set edit the string in the .po with Poedit previously. I’ve even set the blog’s language to German and Spanish… And still the “read more” string appears, despite Control Panel language change accordingly.

    Hum… :/

What do You suggest? Thanks for the support! ??

Could you provide a link to your .po and .mo files so I can do some testing with them? Thanks!

    Thanks for the links!

Could you please try renaming the files using an underscore instead of a hyphen, so:

    pt_PT.po
    pt_PT.mo

Let me know if that does the trick.

    Hi!

    Thanks again, but still, doesn’t work… :/
Only seems to work by forcing it, p.e., by editing file “content-grid.php”. Yhe current string “Ver mais %s” is a temporary patch, until a better solution apears…

But, for the record, the translated version of the string is “Ler mais %s”.

I’ve replicated your issue on my test site. I’m going to ask our internationalization team to have a look at this to detect what is going wrong with this string. Thanks for your patience!

I just tested this with the Brazilian Portuguese .mo file for Edin that I downloaded from GlotPress and I’m now seeing “Leia Mais” on my test site:

Edin Child 1 0 0 by Anonymous tagline

I got the download here by using the Export .mo option at the bottom left. You’ll need to be logged into a WordPress.com account to use this:

    https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/themes/edin/pt-br/default

It seems like something is wrong in your .mo file itself. I’m not sure where you obtained the .po/.mo files in the first place, so at this point I would probably suggest starting with a fresh copy. For example, try downloading the pt_BR file from GlotPress, and seeing if that works. Be sure to rename the file pt_BR.mo so it has the correct name, and set your language to Portuguese (Brazilian) under Settings > General to activate the language.

Do you see “Leia Mais” on your site now?

    Yes, finaly, it works.
As far as I remember, I edited de brazilian version instaled directly by the theme…
    Thanks for helping. ??
    Cheers!

    Hello!

With today’s update, the problem returned… ?? “Read More” apears once again.

Also, the “x” button after click on the theme’s search button shows rough edges instead of transparent corners.

Can you help, once again? ??

Just to confirm, are you saying you updated the theme today?

When you made changes earlier to your theme and its language files, did you isolate those changes to your child theme? If you made any previous changes to the parent theme, those changes will be lost when you update it.

If you isolated your changes to the child theme, any update of the parent theme would not affect the child.

You may want to ask your host if they can roll back your site to an earlier version if you did make changes outside of your child theme. You’ll then be able to move those changes into a child theme so they’ll be protected the next time you update the theme.

By the way, I’m currently seeing “Ler mais” on your front page:
