Hello, novice here. I currently have a WordPress website hosted on https://www.website.com, and I have been working on a completely new version (WordPress too), hosted in new.website.com subdomain.

Website is finished. Now, I am aware that I could transfer my WordPress site to my main domain and this is well documented, but previously I tried to do the exact same thing (carefully) and long story short, I ended paying another expert because when I did the migration nothing worked and the design was broken. According to him, it had something to do with the theme framework.

Thing is, I would rather have the main domain https://www.website.com permamently redirected to new.website.com than having to do a migration again. Question is, would this have a negative impact on the new website? Will the current SEO ranking on https://www.website.com be affected? Let me know if I should avoid this completely or if it is OK.

Thank you in advance for any response.

why do you have TWO WordPress installations? delete the website.com installation, keep the new.website.com and put a redirect file on https://www.website.com named index.php that redirects to new.website.com

Hi Miroslav, thanks for your input. I have two WordPress installations because one is the old website (the one in the main domain) and one is the new website under construction (the one in the subdomain).

What you suggest is what I intend to do once the website is done. My question was if there is any kind of negative impact on doing so, compared to the hassle of migrating to the main domain?
