I have a hack infection on my sites on a shared server that has led me to being suspended. My host has suggested moving everything onto a VPS with its own IP address while I sort the problem out.

I have been trying to run repeated Wordfence scans to progressively reduce and eliminate the infection though so far with limited success as about 80% of scans either fail to start, do not complete or suffer a fatal error (despite my using every option available according to the documentation).

Can Wordfence work with the IP address but no domain name?

    Hi Bravos,

Should work normally with IP only. Good luck with the cleanup.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the quick response, Brian.

Can you give me any idea why the scans might have failed?
I was clearing the WF cache before each run and switched off the config so that it went direct to WF servers to avoid any interference. Checked server memory at 128mb with my host and ran the memory test that confirmed 128mb and was requesting 90mb.
The only thing I could not affect was I was getting a Warning on CURL setting which was at 60 c.f. the recommended >=300 but my host was unwilling to do anything about it.

Most ran for a while and then just stopped.
Some reported a Fatal Error due to memory and always at just over 61k after requesting something more.
Those that ran successfully were always on the small sites whereas the older sites with lots of content always failed. And this was after deleting all themes except the active one and all plugins except WF, Akismet and MainWP Child.

    Would appreciate your advice.

Server max execution time was 30 and I had WF set at 25.

I see your max memory is set at 128M which is what we recomend I think. I usually set the max execution time to 20. Seems to work well for me.

The easiest way to tell what the hold up is would be to enable debugging mode and see what the last line of the activity log says. Let us know and Brian or I will try to help.
