First off I have to give props for the work that’s been done here. This plugin has more potential than any Membership plugin I’ve ever used, and trust me, I’ve used them all (Memberpress, Wishlist Member, Paid Membership Pro, Magic Members – I could go on and on).

Currently, I’m using Gravity Forms for my registration form (I use Stripe but Gravity Forms also integrates with Authorize.net), Profile Builder Pro for my front end login/reset password/edit profile, and Groups by itthinx.

I can’t stand Groups. It’s a really simple plugin but the UI/UX is as confusing as I’ve ever seen, it’s messing up my menu (when I deactivate it, the menu goes back to the way it should be) so I have decided to abandon it to use Members by Justin Tadlock or Ultimate Member.

So far, Ultimate Member looks to be a solution that can replace both Profile Builder Pro and Groups, but I’m not sure if it can replace Gravity Forms for my paid registration form.

    1. Does Ultimate Member allow paid registration forms by integrating with Stripe or Authorize.net?

If so, this plugin should receive a six star rating on a five star scale. Seriously.

If not, I have to continue using Gravity Forms for my registration form (since registered members have to pay) but I can remove PBPro and Groups which is great. Your plugin actually replaces two extremely popular / useful plugins which is fantastic!!

    2. If the answer to question 1 is no, how can I get users that register using Gravity Forms into the whole Ultimate Member ecosystem of content protected pages and posts?

Have I mentioned that I love your plugin? ??

    Cheers!

    Hi Glen,

Thanks for you kind words about UM! Unfortunately, at the moment the plugin does not provide any paid membership options. We only released the plugin a month ago so we are still in the very early days with the plugin.

UM uses the default WP user system and all info is stored in usermeta table so whilst i’ve never used Gravity forms before I imagine they have a way to integrate into user meta.

I’ll give you a little bit of info about what you can expect in the future from UM so you can make an informed decision. We are using the same plugin model used by WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads in that we have a free core version and will also have paid extensions for sale on our site (which will have annual license for support and updates).

In terms of pricing for extensions if you have a look at EDD and those other plugin websites you will get a rough idea of how much our extensions will costs in future.

So to summarise UM core does not and will not have a paid membership option. However in the future we will definitely release a paid membership extension (no ETA im afraid) and individual extensions for the most popular payment processors (Stripe will probably be the first payment processor we create an extension for).

Hope this is useful for you and let me know if you have anymore questions ??

    Thanks!

You guys are rockstars! Thank you for such a prompt reply and I’m so happy that I found your plugin. I actually just left you a review.

I have zero doubt that your team is going to quickly become the front runner for WordPress Content Protection / Membership plugins. If you already had a paid Stripe add-on, you guys would be well on your way to putting the big boys out of business. ??

My only recommendation is that you don’t remove any of the core functionality that’s already present to create paid extensions. In other words, please don’t dumb down what you already offer for free once you start creating paid add-ons.

If one of your users needs Pay Gate / Autoresponder functionality, I think it’s more than fair to take the WooCommerce / Easy Digital Downloads approach.

Thanks again for your reply and for deciding to take over the WordPress content protection market. Job well done.

Yes I saw the review, thank you so much. Provides a lot of motivation when we get positive feedback.

I can guarantee you nothing in the plugin at the moment will be taken out of the core version. We know the key to creating a successful business is to make the core version great as well and the core version will continue to be made better.

What we wont do is add major features to the core version (e.g paid membership, galleries, private messages, social login etc) because we want to keep the core version lightweight and not bloated with features.

Also every community/user/member based site is unique and needs unique features so by using an extension model people only have to purchase what they need. Using this model also allows us to properly fund the business as it grows in the future.

Content protection is just one part of the WordPress market we’re going after ??

Thanks and glad to have you on board!

Btw, I just used Gravity Forms as my registration form which is hooked up to Stripe and also has the ability to add new users upon submission to any role you want (Mine is currently set to Subscriber). I was nervous to see if new users would be added into Ultimate Member (the final step to see if Ultimate Member is the perfect plugin for my needs) and it worked perfectly without me doing anything!

I couldn’t be happier that I found your plugin!!

The reason I’m writing this is for any of your users that need a paid registration form. Until you’re able to create the payment gateway add-on’s, you can suggest that they use Gravity Forms for their registration form, and use Ultimate Member to handle everything else.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Have a great day and thanks again!

Great thanks for letting us know. Out of interest how did you find Ultimate Member? Did you perform a search of Google or WordPress for a particular term?

    Thanks

I actually removed Groups and went into Dashboard > Plugins > Add New to install Members by Justin Tadlock. In the search, I typed members and of course Members by Justin Tadlock is the first result.

After clicking “Install Now,” theres a couple second delay while the browser loads the request and I saw Ultimate Member out of the corner of my eye (it’s on the first column, third row).

After activating Members, I went back to the plugin search and typed members again. As expected, there was Ultimate Member.

Best decision I’ve made all week. ??

Would you mind doing me a favor?

Under your FAQ, please add these two answers to what I would consider questions that will be frequently asked by your users:

    1. Login Widget: There’s currently no login widget but if you go to Dashboard > Widgets > and find the “Text” widget, you can insert the login shortcode that Ultimate Member creates and the login form will show in the sidebar.

Although your team should definitely create a Login Widget, this is a nice workaround for the time being. It will also minimize the question in your forum. ??

    2. Paid Registration: There’s currently no paid registration add-on’s but as I explained, you can always use Gravity Forms to create a paid registration form (mind you, you shouldn’t use the default Ultimate Member registration form anywhere on your site if you choose to go this route), and use Ultimate Member to handle everything else.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for that info. Always useful to find out how people come across UM. Yes sure I will add something in either the FAQ, Docs or Troubleshooting.

    Thanks!

I had to remove the shortcode out of the Text widget because the login form always shows – even to members that are logged in. :/

When your team is planning on creating the login widget, I highly recommend that you download Profile Builder by Cozmoslabs. It’s the best sidebar login widget I’ve ever used (by a long shot).

If I could add a screenshot to show you, I would.

That is also on our to do list and is the next thing we’re going to add to plugin. Basically replace the login form with profile photo and display name and provide a couple of other options.

I will download that plugin and have a look at how they do the sidebar login.

    Thanks!

    @glenmallard

I need to accept payment upon registration and collect personal info. Can you tell me your process for registration/payment using both Gravity Forms and Ultimate Member?

    Thanks!

    @sigmcr,

    1. You need to buy the developer license for Gravity Forms which isn’t cheap, but it’s worth every penny (and no, I don’t work for them). The reason you need the dev license is bc of the addons that are available:

Click here to compare the three licenses

    2. Once you have Gravity Forms installed on your site, you need to also install a few of the addons. The one that’s essential is the User Registration addon. In regard to your payment gateway, you can use Stripe, Authorize.net, or Paypal (Stripe is a much better option than the other two in my opinion).

    3. Once you have taken care of the steps above, simply remove the default Ultimate Member registration form from your Register page and insert the Gravity Forms registration form in it’s place.

    4. You’re done.

Thank you. I have Gravity Forms already. Will try your method.
