• I installed FCKeditor in my plugins folder, but when I go to the Plugins management of my admin panel, I don’t see it in the list.

Does anyone know a solution to this?

  • Which plugin are you using that wraps the FCKEditor? There ara few out there.

    Dean’s FCKEditor

    Hi,

I am having the same problem. Could you explain what is meant by a plugin that “wraps” the FCKEditor?

    thanks.

How many levels deep is it in plugins?

You should have plugins either in the top level plugins directory or one level deep, or else WP won’t notice them.

    If your FCKEditor unzips to
    /plugins/FCKEditor/something/
    then it won’t work.

    Move it one level up.

FCKeditor is an editor written in Javascript(?) and it can be used in several web applications. WordPress is only one. But the editor code must be served in such a way that WordPress knows how to use it. These “wrappers” just make sure that the thing is visible as a plugin and that it is run in the “correct place” in WordPress.

Now, if you don’t manage to get that FCKEditor running for some reason, then you can also try TinyMCE Advanced 2.0 RC. It’s pretty sweet too.

Thanks! The instructions Dean gives for installing FCKeditor are to just unzip it in the plugins folder, which is what I did. This installs an FCKeditor folder. But I’ll move it up a notch and see what happens.

After uploading fckeditor 2.5, I can’t find it on the Plugins control panel, fckeditor 2.4.3 works well though. Anyone got an idea of what happened? Thank you!

When you unzip the plugin go to the unzipped folder and check if there is another folder in it. If so this is the one you need to upload.
