    Hi.

I prefer using “Disable All WordPress Updates” on all webstes, because it really makes UI better – down load speed from 5 seconds to 1. WordPress update system is done bad – i don’t understand why to query when admin visits admin page.

What i want to suggest is a button “check for updates now”. By clicking this button – you just make the updates check like if plugin is not installated. For example it can use some $_GET parameter (e.g. forcecheck=true).

It should be useful because you should keep WordPress updated, but to do it with “Disable All WordPress Updates” – you need to disable plugin, install updates, and then turn it on again. That’s not cool.
The better one – click the button, install updates, continue to work regulary with fast interface, which will not try to check for updates.

    Sincerely,

    Alex.

    Hi Alex,

I get your point, but I’m not sure if that’s a common usage scenario for most users. I think most people installing my plugin just don’t want to receive updates.. increased backend speed is a neat side effect but not a feature.

Having a “Check now” button introduced by a “Block all updates” plugin may confuse people there.

    Hi, thanks for answer.

I am a little bit confused that you think that do not install any updates is a good way. I am sure it’s very bad idea from all espects.

If you think, that most people want to completely disable updates, then OK… I think you have mistaken about that.

“Having a “Check now” button introduced by a “Block all updates” plugin may confuse people there.”
Not sure why should it bother anyone. At least there may be a config options for this.

    Hi Profforg,

well, disabling updates ain’t good on production sites. But, in fact, most people installing my plugin do it because they’re developing locally and don’t want any outgoing connections. Maybe because they don’t have access to the internet or don’t need/want updates while developing. I don’t think these people would use a “Check now” button… actually because they wanted to get rid of outbound connections is why they installed my plugin. ??

Adding an options page would be possible, but honestly I’d like to keep it clean and simple. Install and done. No options, no explanation needed.

    Hope you understand that. ??
