• Hi all,

I just made a transfer from brainhost to hostgator but now, instead of having my fully functioning wordpress site with all of my blogs, pages and other content, it got reseted to the default.

I need help getting all of my content back so I can carry on from all of my past work.

I had brainhost send me all the files and after uploading it all via filezilla and with some help sorting out some of files with someone from hostgator, the best I could get to was the basic default wordpress stuff where it looks like I have to start from scratch.

I need help with putting the right files in the correct directories so I can restore my site to it’s former glory.

    Thanks in advance,

    Clinton

  • Firstly, you have done very well collecting the FILES that drive your website. What you also need is a backup of the DATABASE from your old website, it is the database that contains much of the content of your website.

ASIDE: Your images are in the files, your page and post text, as well as menu organisation and settings etc are in the database.

Can you get a backup copy of the database from your old website ?
Once you have restored from this database you will see a much more familiar website.
(Another step you will need is to visit: Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and press SAVE)
