    Hey guys,

I’m a total newbie when it comes to wordpress but I am very interested in making use of it and have heard only good things about it!

I have a netfirms account and I was pleased to see it had an automatic install type feature!

Seemed very easy, basically you just click “add” and put in the name of what your directory folder is to be.

After that it emails you your admin id and pass. You then click on “admin” and then you can go on and configure your stuff and so on so forth.

However, when i click on “admin” it comes up with the “WordPress Installing Netfirms Blogger” with a small loading bar. When the loading bar reaches the top it just loops and doesn’t go any further than this.

I thought that maybe netfirms is using an older version but i can’t see anywhere that informs me of what version they are using and it also doesn’t have an “upgrade” feature anywhere (or as far as i can see).

This happens the exact same on both IE and Firefox.

My blog has been created however ( https://d3nny.co.uk/blog/ ) but is obviously the “bare bones” as i can’t get into the admin to change anything.

Has anyone experienced this problem and solved it? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Again, i apologise if this is a very tedious and moronic problem.

    Thanks in advance,

    – Denny x

  • That’s WordPress 2.0.1. Delete it as it’ll be hacked soon.

I’d suggest doing a manual/normal install instead so you can get a current and known-safe version.

Since you mentioned you’re on Netfirms, I guess it’d be polite to warn you that you’re going to have a helluva time getting pretty Permalinks to work with your blog. They have a bit of a reputation… (just search here or click that “Netfirms” link in your list of tags)

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yeah to be honest, i’m not using Netfirms as a proper host as i only bought it because it was dirt cheap, i just wanna fool around with some stuff like WordPress and maybe upload some simple layouts for other things, then perhaps buy proper hosting (netfirms is a bit of a joke at times heh).

Ok thanks, i’ve just removed it there and i am gonna install 2.2 manually.

Thanks again for the lightning speed reply!

    Hmmm…

Just tried it there, all very straight forward however i get this message when i try and acces the install.php

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysqlhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

(i had previously tried “localhost” in the config and got the same).

Maybe this is why it wouldn’t work the first time with the one click install? Or am i doin something very stupid?

    Sorted ??

Hey Denny, I’m having the same issues on Netfirms- how did you resolve the install.php error?
