• Hi

I host my blog but can’t login!

I’ve checked the details on the wp-config.php and I am entering the correct username and password.

Every attempt I get the message Error: Wrong username.

    Kind regards,

    Justin

  • You’ll have to use this directions to reset your password.

wp-config doesnt store your login and password for WordPress.

Your password is emailed to the email you provided when you installed.

    @ Jeremy :
You’ll have to use this directions to reset your password.

That or he could just use the proper login and password.

I should have pointed out that I meant using the automated emailer to reset the password. Here is the section I meant for Justin to look at. I figured it would just be easiest.

He’s looking for his information in the wrong place… thats my point. I love the fact that people get directed to that codex page as a link to my script is there – but it’s nice if they are given corrected info first.

    Hi,

I’ve tried the automated emailer to reset but it keeps coming back with the following -Sorry, that user does not seem to exist in our database. Perhaps you have the wrong username or e-mail address? Try again.

this is the username I recieved with my initial email – I may of reset this but I can’t remember…duh! Its been quite a while since I’ve logged in!

    Any suggestions?

Please read what I wrote — you are taking the information OUT OF THE WRONG PLACE.

By default — your login is “admin” w/o the quotes.

The password is e-mailed to you. It is not stored inside wp-config.php

    Ok I still can’t login!

I’ve tried to enter the original username and password which was emailed to me but its not working! I’ve also tried admin but its still not working. I could not login to this support forum so I had to register again!

what does this forum have to do with your blog? NOT a thing.

    Need more ideas?

The Problem is I’m really unsure now what the username or paswword are?

It says in the emergency password resetting script that I need to know the username!

Can I try what I think it could be? Maybe its still admin!

Unless your went into your database and changed a value, then it is still admin.

I’ve tried admin using auto method but it keeps coming back with : Sorry, that user does not seem to exist in our database. Perhaps you have the wrong username or e-mail address? Try again.

Maybe take a breather for a second. When you first set up WordPress, it emailed you a username and password. The default username is *always* “admin”. Now, you have the option – after initial login – to change the password. (As whoo said, the wp-config file has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with your WP installation login.)

You also have the option, after initial login, to add a new user. With that, you can create your own username and password, and then set yourself to admin status and use *that* name to log in.

It sounds to me like, in the beginning, you set yourself up with a new username and password, then deleted the “admin” account. (Otherwise, the “auto” would recognize the username in the DB and send it to you – OR you initially used a different/old email address and it can’t find you that way, either.)

In any case, if you can’t log in, you’re going to have to reset. If you follow the last link Whoomai sent, you’ll see how to do it right there – there’s step-by-step instructions. We can’t get much more clear than that.
