1.2.1 to 2.2 upgrade questions

  • Hey everyone!

    I have a super old wordpress install (1.2.1) that I want to upgrade to the latest and greatest version (2.2). To further complicate issues I am moving the blog to another server. Rather than disturbing the old blog I would like to do all of the upgrade work on the new server.

    I read through the upgrade documents and they did not discuss any WP installs older than 1.5.x so could ya’ll help me out by pointing me in the right direction.

  • In steps.
    a) 1.2 > to 1.5. Check if it works.
    You will have to remake your “style” into a theme.
    (yes, there is documentation in the Codex)
    b) 1.5 > to 2.0.10

    You may even stop there and think twice.
    Get familiar with what is new. See if your theme would work with the 2.1/2.2 branch.

    hey thanks for those steps… I am well due for a theme update… so I am not very concerned about how it looks. I just want to get my database/users/comments out of the old version of word press.

    Can I go 1.5 -> 2.2?

    Yes you can got from 1.5 to 2.2 directly though some advise that you go from 1.5 to 2.0.10, then from 2.0.10 to 2.2.
