problem with URL's adding https://www.google.com

  • Hi, great plugin.
    I set up all social sites starting with facebook and twitter, for these two everything works fine, if I add instagram and tumblr etc for some reason the final icons are always linking to https://www.google.com/mytumblrURL

    So there is always a https://www.google.com infront of the URL..
    any idea how to fix that ?

    Plus if I enter my full twitter URL it also adds twitter.com infront of it. so it only works fine if I ask my users only to type their twitter name in it, but for facebook it requires the full page URL, so that is also confusing, would be better if this would process only full page URLS for all systems. but the bug with the google.com is a much bigger problem.

    But this is only my problem at the moment I can’t say for sure that this is a plugin bug. I only want to let you know, maybe you have an idea. The plugin is great . Thx

    @shunt45 nope.
    the problem is that the additional profile fields are not correctly linked.
    it is a pitty because otherwise the plugin would work just fine.

    you could name your profile fieds name 1, name2, name 3 and than connect with all social network services the plugin provides and than see which one actually links correctly- but it really makes no sense because it creates database entries that are hard to change.
    I hope that the creator will just spend another couple of hours and fix that, because everyone from the buddypress community wants that feature.

    The issue of https://www.google.com+url is fixed in our updated version of buddypress-social-icon plugin. Now the Plugin does not require the full page URL for Facebook this issue is also solved. In updated version you need to enter facebook user name like twitter. If your issue is not resolved then share your website URL, We will look and reply you back for the solution or the issue.

    @Team-Vivacity hi i justed tested the plugin,
    the problem is many facebook user do not know what to type in in the field.
    this is because they used to have a name and than attached was a different page number and than facebook has also page ID’s plus over the years people changed their screen name… i think it would be really ok if you just let the people copy and paste in their full url.
    this can also be a problem for other social networks.

    for examble the tumblr user page of me is https://kawaii-com.tumblr.com

    but the field starts with https://tumblr.com/ and asks for a name id or username to add, this doesn’t work.
    I think so far the plugin is awesome for google+, instagram, twitter if you tell people in the profile field to enter their usernames

    I see that this was not updated to work with wordpress 4.1… I love this plugin, but I will wait for the update for 4.1… Does this work with buddypress 2.1…

    @Team-Vivacity I agree with kawaiikawaii and I am running into the same issure. It would be easier if users were able to paste their full for sites like facebook, linkedin, et. Is it possible to make this change?

    @pushmusicpro I’m using buddypress 2.5.4
