Based in the US showing only to visitors in EU countries

  • Hi,
    What if you are based in the US but also have visitors from EU countries. Obviously we do not want to be showing the message non stop to visitors from US, Canada and the non EU countries.

    Another question – once the visitor from EU clicks accept will the message be shown to the particular visitor again once he comes back to the site?

    What if he/she is already a registered user on our WP site?

    Hi

    It’s an EU law not a US one so if you’re genuinely based outside the EU you probably don’t need a privacy message at all, even if you’re targeting EU visitors- check your country laws, of course. However if your website is hosted outside of the EU but your business is within the EU, then the law does apply. The location of the business not the server is what counts here.

    On a more broader perspective, detecting countries isn’t a feature of this plugin, neither is integrating with WP site users to determine preferences. That would be very specific to each website configuration. You could certainly extend the plugin to do that if it were a useful feature for you but you’d need a developer to help you.
