• Once I have published my article I usually check to see how it ranks in google search on the next day. Surprisingly I found that (my first articles didnt have this problem) not the article itself is the search result but rather another page that also contains the article but with different styling.
so rather than opening article found on https://www.websitename.com/post-name
the search results sends me to https://www.websitename.com/tag/postname

    – i have categorized my articles
    – permalink settings are set to post name
    – i am using yoast seo and I haven’t touched the permalink settings there.

When I go to the tag section under posts. I can review all the articles that have tags. When I go to review the article from there the page opens up with the additional /tag url.

I think this is damaging my seo big time.

  • if you don’t want to see tag in your url then edit your post and remove tags from it, so simple.
