Please help. I switched hosts and I also modified my WordPress to display the website in the root despite WP existing in a different folder.

The site is *mostly* working fine if I type it in as

    https://www.thedailycute.com/dailycute

My forums still aren’t working, click on it and you’ll see the error =(

    Neither is users online =(

I have no .htaccess file to move. WordPress does not generate code for me like it says it will…

I’m lost. I want my site back. I don’t know what to do…I’ve spent the last 6 hours randomly doing things to no avail. I tried turning off all plugins, didn’t make a difference….

I disabled the forums. I also upgraded to 2.2 which I guess the forums aren’t compatible with. I’m so confused…

Stop it. Don’t ever do that again.

Why is it that when people don’t know what they’re doing, they try all this stuff completely at random, and end up just making things worse? If you don’t know what you’re doing, then you need to not do anything and instead find somebody that does know what they are doing.

I recommend sending an email to the wp-pro mailing list here: https://lists.automattic.com/mailman/listinfo/wp-pro
There you can find somebody who can fix your site for you for a reasonable price.

You’ve moved everything from your old host which was in the root directory to a directory on your new host called daliycute if you move everything from this directory back down to the root of the web server everything should start working better.

no, everything was setup just like it is now jeremy. ?? i had most of my pictures and stuff in the root, but all WP related files in /dailycute

for some reason, my pictures are still trying to link back to the old server…i had assumed they’d be properly updated…

Are you referring to pictures in posts? The content of posts and such is not going to magically change unless you go and edit those posts.

However, if you’re using the same domain name as you used to use, then the location of that domain may change and so the links would still be correct. It’s hard to say without knowing more information about what exactly you’ve done.

my host did the transfer for me

    my old site was

    https://thedailycute.atotchat.org

my images and such were in the root, everythign else in /dailycute and the site was on /dailycute

now i’ve changed it so https://www.thedailycute.com is where all of my images are still, and /dailycute is the WP folder, but WP is supposed to work on the root

BUT I DO NOT HAVE AN .HTACCESS file and i have no idea how to get one…that could be the problem

all of my theme and stuff still links back to thedailycute.atotchat.org …i dont get it…

ok i fixed up my theme, thats a start

but i think the no .htaccess is quite a problem. i tried following the WP support pages but they did not help
