Fetch assets from url in post

OK guys, you know that if you paste a link to a web page into some social media sites (e.g. Facebook) it goes off and fetches suitable images on the linked page to use when displaying in the post. Is there a plug-in that does this in WordPress? I want to build a site comprising curated content from elsewhere on the web, typically relevant and interesting posts on social media, and automate the fetching of assets like images and the name of the original poster/author. If you could point me in the right direction I’d be grateful.
