    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Moving the Like Box to a text widget won’t help you I’m afraid, as Adblock will block it anyway.

You should be able to allow Facebook in your Adblock Plus settings to solve that problem.

    Hello, Jeremy,

Thanks for the advice. Adblock Plus does not block text widget content, so if moving Jetpack’s Facebook Like Box into a text widget were possible (without creating other issues, such as display problems, depending on how Jetpack handles this FB Like Box module), we’d love to know how. Any ideas?

Moreover, we’re especially curious why Jetpack’s FB Like Box module is now tagged as an advertising unit by Adblock Plus. Aren’t you curious, too?? This is relatively recent (mis-) behavior.

You can add the Like Box in a text widget, by pasting code you’ll generate from this Like Box Generator:
    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-box-for-pages

However, I’m afraid that won’t change anything on your end, as Adblock Plus doesn’t care about the container, it only blocks domains. If Facebook is blocked it will block all Like Boxes, regardless of how you generate or display them.

I installed Ad Block Plus to understand how it could block Facebook, and then added 2 Like Boxes to a test site of mine, using Jetpack’s widget and a Text Widget. Here are the results:

Since I can’t reproduce the problem on my end, I’d suggest that you check Adblock Plus settings and make sure Facebook is on your domain whitelist.

Thanks again, Jeremy, for all your time and thoughts…we don’t recall ever changing our Adblock Plus settings, but it’s now turned out that there is something called EasyList installed with Adblock Plus…perhaps Adblock Plus now includes such filters by default!! ??

Which brings us back to Square One…how would you (Jetpack) handle matters as this practice becomes more and more prevalent? Or would you, it seems, just let it be, leaving it up to the user? ??

Which brings us back to Square One: what do you (Jetpack) plan on doing about it, in terms of countering such practices? Or would you, it seems, leave it entirely up to the user? ?? Who, it should be reminded, often don’t know, like us, that some setting’s been activated….

I’m afraid there isn’t much we can do about it. As I noted earlier, Jetpack’s Facebook Like Box is just a regular Like Box much like the one you could generate from Facebook’s Like Box generator. We consequently don’t have much control over what’s displayed in that box. Facebook themselves wouldn’t be able to do much, as far as I know, as there can be many ways for AdBlock and other programs to block what’s displayed there. These programs are built so you can’t get around them, so it would be hard to force the display if an add-on doesn’t want you to.
