• I am a WordPress newbie, and a website dullard overall.

This is my dilemma. I bought a domain name and host it through iPage. I started to create a Dreamweaver site, but I just don’t have the time, creativity, or know-how to figure out how to finish it. The URL in question here is daidreetofano.com You can see, it’s crappy.

I want to completely scrap the Dreamweaver site and use WordPress for my site interface. I installed WordPress via iPage, and it appears that my domain is registered as a WordPress site. I tried to install and activate a theme for the site, but it doesn’t seem to want to do anything. When I click the “Visit daidreetofano.com” button in the Dashboard, it takes me back to the same old crappy Dreamweaver site.

So, what am I missing? How to I get the URL to direct to the WordPress instead of the Dreamweaver site?

  • Do you have WordPress installed?

I’m guessing that your existing site has an index.html page in the root of your server. Try removing that file – then WP will default to index.php and should work.

I do have WordPress installed, and it appears that I am designing my daidreetofano.com site in the Dashboard.

How do I remove an index.html page from the server? Use small words and pictures, please – remember that I am a code moron.

LOL – all of us have been there :)! You’ll need to use FTP or another file manager like Cpanel – you’ll need to get access info for either of those from your hosting – it’s not part of WP, but a way to access the files on your server.

    Ok, thanks for your help!

    Happy Sunday!
