• First, this is a great simple theme, I love it. This is a first for me and I was using a more complicated theme and trying to simplify it, then I found this one.
I am trying to insert a widget to my front page. I am using the static front page. I have tried inserting the basic (calender, recent post, tags, categories, etc) widgets and they will not work. However, they do work on my other pages. In the customizer widget editor it shows “front page widget 1” but then it shows “The first (leftmost) sidebar used by front-page.php” It is my understanding that the widget areas are horizontal? I have set a background color and I can see the three blank widget areas. I will only want to use one of them, so how can I turn off the other two so it is not just blank tables showing my background color.

sorry I am running on my computer, no url for you.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello, sorry but I’m not sure I’m following entirely. Are you saying that you can’t get the widgets to show up on the front page at all? If so let me know and I’ll do what I can to help.

You’re right that the widgets on the sidebar are horizontal, and in hindsight I should have described them better.

On the final point, Do you want the one widget area to fill the full width of the page? Again let me know and I’ll write some instructions if that’s the case.

At some point I could see three (blank) tables on the static front page, I think they were the 3 widget areas. The size and placement of them is great.

However I cannot get any widgets to show on any of the 3 areas for the static front page. I am using the latest wordpress if that helps.
    Thanks!

That’s odd, it seems to be working properly on this end. Would you be able to post screenshots of your front page and widget area on admin please? I’d like to help sort out the problem.

Sorry, a couple more questions: Can I ask what browser you’re using and if you’ve modified the theme at all?

Hey I went and disabled (removed) my child theme on my break today, it did not help. Sorry I didn’t have a chance to do any screen shots. I am using firefox.

Under “front page widget 1” I have placed the calendar widget, my front page is a static front page. The widget is not displayed.
I will get some screen shots as soon as I can! Thanks again.

In the sidebar-front.php… I removed the line under “Return early if none of the front page widget areas are in use.”

    So it’s just
    <?php?>
    <div id=”front-page…

This allows me to see the widgets I put in those areas, however I put the code back in because I am not sure how important it is. There is no need to return early because the front page widget area is in fact in use. ??

Also can you display as many widgets as you would like in each of those 3 areas?

Ok, I’ve just spotted the silly mistake in my code (sorry), it is in that return early bit. I’ll submit an update in a minute, which should show up for you in the next few days.

To answer your other question, you can put as many widgets as you want in each area and they’ll appear in a column, use front page areas 2 and 3 as well if you would like a row.

Awesome, thanks! If I delete that code, then update when it’s available will it fix itself? Also how will I know when the update is available?

    (@chrisdc1)

Hello again, theme updates overwrite any changes you make to a theme, so that should fix the problem either way.

If you look at the themes page in your site admin you can see what themes have updates available (and click through to apply the update). I’ll also post here to let you know when the update has been approved.

Just wanted to let you know the update has been approved so it should be showing in your admin area now. Hopefully that should take care of the issue, but let me know if I can help with anything else.

Awesome! Thanks so much for your help. Thanks for the design too!
