Advanced Editing

What is “advanced editing”? There used to be something named like that in v.1.2 – not anymore since then.

It has to do with setting up custom fields. I’m using This page as a reference.

There is ONLY advanced since 1.5.

I just want to add a currently reading custom field.

And what stops you? The custom fields are below your text input area.

I DON’T want the Advanced Editing features. In the folder wp-admin, there are 2 files: edit-form-advanced.php and edit-form.php.
I tried renaming edit-form.php to edit-form-advanced.php but it does not work. If the ONLY option is Advanced editing, then what purpose does edit-form.php serve? Is it used in editing stuff like comments etc?
What I am actually looking for is a edit form (for writing blogs) that I can put into a cusom designed WP page, without all the fancy stuff like trackbacks, fancy text, ping… Is a plugin is available somewhere where I can have just a simple form (for WP2.2)? I know, the beauty of 2.2 will be lost…

Heavy editing of edit-form-advanced.php, stripping it barebones, daily beating of the code and other forms of depravation has accomplished what I had wanted.

I too do not have the ability to change from basic editing to advanced editing. As explained in the write post subpanel doc

“WordPress has two post editing modes, basic and advanced. Typically, this basic mode is the default for writing new posts, but that can be changed with the When starting a post option in the Administration > Options > Writing SubPanel.”

The “When starting a post option” doesn’t appear. Any ideas? Thanks!

Same here. I just installed the latest wordpress and imported from my old blog. Some of the items are marked ‘private’ but I can’t change them because I cant get access to the documented ‘when starting a post’ option … help!!
