• Is there a possibility to have a tcikbox for articles to appear on the front page. So, I have a site with various users, who are contributors. The write posts. These posts appear in the right column as ‘recent posts’ but I’d like them not to appear in the middle column by default, so me (as administrator) can tick a box for them to appear as a proper article on the front page.

    Is this possible?

    Cheers, Wietse

  • Another approach that might work:

Make a category for stuff you want to show on the front page.

Instead of ticking a box, just add the post to the category.

Then use one of the category visibility plugins to only show that one category up front.

    Category Visibility plugin.
    Ultimate Category Excluder plugin.

    Think that’d work?

Guess you could create a Category called ‘wietse approved’ then with something like the Category Visibility plugin to display only a particular Category on the ‘front page’, you would add that Category to the Post as your approval mechanism.

[oops, Handy is golden!!! and faster!!!]

    Right,

With the Category Visibility plugin the posts don’t show on the frontpage, but also fail to show in the ‘recent posts’ (in the right column) which i’d like to show the titles of all recent posts, including those not promoted.

With the Ultimate Category Excluder plugin it seemed to mess up my categories in general. When I tried to view a category called ‘books’, all articles showed even those not in the category.

Also bothe plugins seem for wordpress 2.0 and 2.1. I’m running 2.2

With both these plugins the articles that show on the frontpage have to be in a category, which I called ‘promoted’. I thought if I exclude all the other categories from the frontpage, then what I tick the promoted category for, will appear. The problem seems that if ‘promoted’ is an actual category, a user able to register and post (which is what I’d like people to do) will be able to tick the ‘promoted’ category themselves.

Anyhow, I’d like to be able to tick a box to ‘promote’ a post to the frontpage, so by default they’re not. Also I’d like all (incl. non-promoted) posts to appear in the ‘recent post’ which I’ve got in my column.

Cheers for the last advice but has anyone got any other ideas?

Actually I found a way for it to work now. I’m using the Category Visibility plugin. I’ve replaced the ‘recent posts’ in the column with an rss feed which includes all the articles. Not ideal, I know, but at least something. The only problem left is that if users able to register and post will be able to tick the ‘promoted’ category themselves…

I have changed the user levels in the plugin but it seems if they are any other than 0, only registered people for the level I’d specify would be able to view those posts on the front page…
