I tried to use a quote or aside post format today for the first time, but the post didn’t look any different from a standard post. How do I get a quote or aside post to look like the ones on the Hemingway demo site? I’ve already tried selecting the post format option in the admin sidebar for new posts. Nothing happened.

  • Hello Tovermiller,

    Hope you’re well! ??

Are you referring to this format: https://prntscr.com/5pg6ln? If so, you could use

    <blockquote></blockquote>

for this. For more info about blockquote tag visit: https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_blockquote.asp

    Hope it helps! ??

    Take care,

Thanks, but I can do that quite easily with the text editor options within the post. If you go here and scroll down, you will find:

    1. A quote post format, Feb. 3, 2014
    2. An aside, Jan. 31, 2014

You’ll notice that these post formats have different date formatting, etc. There is an option within the WordPress post admin to mark a post as one format or another, but choosing any of these options does not seem to cause any expected formatting changes. I’m curious what I’m missing, or I won’t be able to use this very nice template…

    Hello TOvermiller,

As I play more with the theme on my test install. I also can’t see any difference between each post format. I think the demo still use “blockquote” for it to look that way. don’t you think?

Hoping to get reply from theme author or someone who can give us a shed of light. ??

    Best Regards,

Yes, I agree that the ‘block quote’ style is borrowed for the quote post format on the demo site, but that doesn’t help out on the post style options though. I am also hoping that Anders Noren (the theme developer) is able to provide a solution. Otherwise I am getting close to abandoning this theme, though I like it in a lot of ways.

    Hi TOvermiller,

The aside post format will be displayed differently as long as you select it for a post in the format meta box. The quote post format, however, relies on special formatting to be displayed correctly. Select the quote post format and enter the following in the post content:

<blockquote><p>"Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected."</p>

    <cite>Steve Jobs</cite></blockquote>

Click publish and the post will be displayed as the post on the demo installation.
