Uploads fail after WP move

I moved my WP site from a subfloder to root folder on same server. Followed all instructions & updated URL’s. All seems fine on user side and most of admin, but media uploads go to the old subfolder. In fact, if I delete the subfolder, it is re-created, along with upload folders under it, when I upload files. A broken-link icon appears in media library.
