• Just updated to 4.1 and now I cannot update any page or add a new page. I get directed to a blank wp-admin/post.php page when I click “update” while editng any page.

Already tried de-activating all plugins and that did not seem to resolve the issue.

I am running the theme “X.”

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I would try the following:

    • 1: Switch the theme to Twenty Fiften, the most current default theme
    • 2: set permalinks to default
    • 3: visit a page, then try and update that page
    • 4: Try and create a new page
    • If all that works then continue, if none of that works, come back here.
    • 5: Re-activate theme ‘X’ and all your favourit plugins
    • 6: After re-activating theme ‘X’ set permalinks back to your favourit setting

Hopefully that helps, i find there seems to be a problem with permalinks and themes and creating new pages/posts from time to time. This may not fix the problem, if not then i hope someone can help.

    None luck.

I switched to theme 2015, and shut off all plugins. Permalinks have always been set to default. It did not resolve the issue.

I can view pages, but I cannot edit, add or preview changes to pages. These are the only functions that are not working on the site.

Someone has had a similar problem in the past with WP 3.9.1 – check out the thread here

They said this solution worked for them:

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

reset your plugins folder via FTP or the file manager provided in your host’s control panel.

Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

Still no luck after renaming the plugin folder.

I even set the entire site to 777 thinking that it was a permission issue.

I also have rolled back to 4.0.

Nothing is resolving this issue and it is starting to become very frustrating.

It would be a good idea to contact the support channel of your hosting company.

After eliminating all those other possibilities, it could very well be anything, it could even be an issue with MySQL and the settings inside wp-config.php, maybe the capabilities set inside PHPMyAdmin for DB_USERNAME has changed.

Good luck, sorry i couldnt help.

I don’t want to send you on a never ending wild goose chase, but another possible thing you could try is this:

Using your hosting company PHPMyAdmin user interface, create a brand new database, an a new user with global privileges, and then make a backup copy of your wp-config.php file, and then put in the new database and username settings. – now see if u can make new posts – This will narrow down if it is a problem with WP files or the database itself, if this works, it may help you to further trouble shoot the problem.

Restore your old wp-config.php file to switch back to your old database.

I am preparing to wipe everything and do a clean install, but still no luck.

I am just going around in circles.

If your going to do a clean install remember to you can

    • export all posts and pages to later import
    • make a copy of the ‘uploads’ media folder inside wp-contents and upload just the media after install

It’s similar to a back up but should leave any problems behind. Safe to do a normal backup as well.

    Good luck!
