• I know that it is a lot. The question is: How do a speed up my site’s page loading by reducing that number? Or should I?

I’ve gone through my installation and deactivated and then deleted any plugin that I not use or don’t really need. Right now, I’m not even using Widgets.

I use the Mandigo theme, which manages to use just 23 queries on a different WordPress site I operate. Of course, that’s a much newer site, without as many plugins.

  • thats a crapload of queries. If i were your host, and you had any decent amount of traffic, why I’d …

WHAT plugins do you have installed??

720 queries is an insanely high number of queries. I use like 30-40 plugins and only have 24 queries on the front page.

I guess my question is this: I’ve removed and deleted a huge number of unused plugins, including Sidebar Widgets. But I’m still getting about 700 queries. Are there still tables in my database that should be deleted? If so, is there a way to do that painlessly?

the amount of queries wont be reduced by deleting tables.

What you need to do is to figure out what plugin(s) are causing the problem, and trust me, 700+ queries on a single page load is a huge problem.

Disable 2 plugins at a time, check the amount.. even better disable each plugin one at a time, and write down the amont of queries you lose. I’m sure I dont have to do the math for you.

I will be adding this post to my favorites, I’m actually VERY interested in hearing what you find out.

I am happy you find this sooooo entertaining.

    So, I followed your advice.

Deactivating Anarchy Media Player reduced queries from 721 to 666. That’s a start.

No effect: Add User photo, Akismet, Chunk URLs, Cruftless Search, Contextual Related Posts, Filosofo Old-Style Upload, Iimage Browser, Get Author profile, Get Recent comments, Javascript Pullquotes, Lazy-K Gallery. More-Paragraphs, Optimal Title, Protect Content, Role Manager, Spelling Checker, Simple tags, Sociable, Subscribe to Comments, WP-Contact Form, WP-Add Quicktags, WP DB Manager.

Deactivating Pierre’s WordSpew, TDO Mini Forms, Viper’s Video Quick Tags each ended one query.

    I had already deleted WP-phpmyadmin.

End result: I’m down to just 666 queries.

thats after deactivating ALL the plugins, or no????

and I dont really find it entertaining — this is actually a post that isnt a run of the mill, my sidebar dropped, I cant read the codex will you read it for me question.

    Im intrigued.

OK: At this very instant, I have NO plugins installed. And I am being told b the little announcement at the bottom of my theme that I made 642 queries in 0.511 seconds.

Is it possible that this little blurb in just plain out wrong? How can I check?

For the record, my homepage footer says (1.408 sec,554 qrs), which seems a lot. I wonder if it’s just miscalculating for some reason, cuz I think the page loads reasonably fast and my host hasn’t complained. I have several plugins — fewer than you, but very few overlapping like Akismet. Could it be something in the theme design, rather than a plugin?

Dgold: What theme are you using?

i’m just using an old Default Theme (Kubrick) that I hacked in different places. My novice meddling in the theme code could’ve done something strange. the fact my theme looks like kubrick (my hacks don’t change that) and i’m tired of the theme is 1 reason i don’t post the link here but you can find it googling my name pretty easy if you want to see. By the way your theme looks nice, I gotta switch to 3 column and 1024 width or fluid width soon.

Is there a way to echo a list of what the queries are querying?
