Inline Image Toolbar Issue
-
Hey everyone,
Having an issue with the new inline image toolbar in a specific scenario. I don’t think it’s broken, but it’s chosen method of operating makes it difficult to use in certain situations.
We have a responsive design on the front end, and we insert full size, large images into the story directly. Sometimes they are 2000/3000 pixels wide.
When using the visual editor, if you have inserted an image attachment into the post, and it is larger than the visible area of the TinyMCE, it goes off screen. The inline image toolbar that appears when the image is selected is shown in the middle of the image – which is out of sight because the middle of the image is outside the visible TinyMCE editor area.
That requires you to scroll down to the end of your article, and then a little bit more, so that you can see the TinyMCE horizontal scroll bar. You then need to use that to go to the center of your image(s), scroll back up, select the image, just so you can see the inline image toolbar. Then scroll back down again, move the TinyMCE horizontal scroll, continue writing.
And, if you have multiple large images inserted, all different widths, it would require you to scroll back down to the TinyMCE horizontal scroll, move to the center of THAT image using the force, and then scroll back up to see the toolbar.
So, I guess a way to address this would be…
Stop using such large images (no).
Make the inline image toolbar align to left of image at all times (or right for rtl languages).
Make the images in visual mode of the editor responsive to the TinyMCE window.
