Stripping html formatting & CSS changes don't show

  • I am NEW at WordPress and I don’t understand PHP. It appears I don’t have a c-panel available on my website through GoDaddy.
    As per tutorials, I chose a free theme, and created a child theme based on it using Child Theme Configurator.
    I am using SiteOrigin Page Builder which may be the problem.

    I have had many problems so far with my changes showing up.
    First: I tried adding a table but WP would strip out my formatting. Threads here suggest that changing between the visual and text editor was a no-no which is ridiculous to me. But, it certainly doesn’t do html like I would expect. So this means I have no way of reliably customizing the html on pages and posts. If I am wrong, please provide a link that I can understand without changing PHP.

    Secondly: Using Child Theme Configurator, I am unable to achieve the changes to the CSS. One item did change, but the others did not.

    I would include the CSS child theme code, but I don’t understand the “backticks” directive.

    Yep, can be annoying, but that’s not WP per se – it’s due to the way the visual editor works (TinyMCE – the one WP uses).

    Your CSS seems to be working – try clearing your browser cache.

    The CSS changes finally show up a day after I do them. Refresh is not enough?

    How do people deal with the text editor? How do I put in a table? It won’t accept my code, with or without Page Builder.

    The table plug-in I tried had the same problem. I can’t change the html on my pages.

    Do you have caching on your site or server? I didn’t see any caching plugins but some servers cache and that will delay changes from showing.

    You should be able to put any HTML code in the TEXT editor – but if you are using Page Builder, perhaps that changes it – I’ve never used it. And if you switch editors, yes, that will likely mess up code.
