Exception thrown – Google CurlIO client requires CURL PHP extensions

I also encountered errors after I updated to 5.2.4. The first was the CURL PHP error. When I then tried to get back to login, I couldn’t. It was the white screen of death.
In case it matters the web server is: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
For the time being, I FTPed into the site and renamed the plug-in folder so I could log back in.
