I’m not one to complain about a free, and admittedly fantastic plugin, but update 3.1.3 basically turns a fantastic plugin into something decidedly mediocre.

Setting a hard 2GB archive limit? Really now? A lot of the sites I administer are less than this, but equally a lot of them are more. A lot of them are image heavy sites, which go back a long way. That soon adds up and setting this limit was inconvenient to say the least because suddenly I need to go and create additional, split backup jobs.

And then today I encounter another problem. The 2014 uploads folder on one of the sites I administer is 3.3 gigs in size.

We don’t have the level of granularity in the folder selection dialog to pick out “only” months 01-06, in order to make the files fit in the archive, nor do I particularly want to pick through 20 different tarballs to restore a site in case there is a serious issue.

I know for a fact the server supports files of more than 2GB, since I just rolled back to version 3.1.2 and it worked fine.

Can you please remove this hard 2GB limit? Why not just add a disclaimer instead saying “If your backup fails, try splitting it across multiple jobs” instead of implementing “baby mode”.

I will look that i make it optional.

Thanks Daniel – I think it would be a great option. Have it the “default” option for sure, but at least allow people to disable the option. I’ve had to rollback to version 3.1.2 on a load of sites which isn’t ideal.

By the way – unrelated, but I sent a request to you guys through… CodeCanyon I think, with a query about BackWPup pro but never got a response… Should I send it again, or…?

I’m also search a Backup-Programm and run a test with BackWPup and I have similar problems. 2GB is not enough for the complete Backup and I got a 5 Min. timeout while it crunch the data. Must I search another Backup-Programm or is a solution possible?

More than 2GB (maybe in one larger File oder Split-Files as part01, part02)
    and a bigger timeout?

You can use split the backup across multiple jobs or use version 3.1.2 of the plugin. Also, in the settings, set decrease server load and increase number of attempts.

Split the backup across multiple jobs – this would be possible for a short time, but this is not a solution for the future and for a good programm.

Also, in the settings, set decrease server load and increase number of attempts.

Does this help for the timeout, or is this a general tip?

May help with the timeouts, but in any case will reduce the risk that the backup fails due to multiple timeouts.

As for the the 2gb limit – I completely agree… that was why I opened this post in the first place.

@cagsmith: you can send a request to marketpress.com. or to d dot huesken at inpsyde dot com.

I am also the same “problem”. Already have any solutions? Thank you!

@fernandolopes – I’m using version 3.1.2 until it is resolved (or if not then I’ll need to use a different plugin alas) – go to the plugin page on WordPress and click on the developers tab to find that version.

Developer could put this option in the next update of the plugin. I do not I burn backups on DVDs. All are in the dropbox. Only backups to an accident! 2GB are irrelevant. Please arrange this. I do not like to use outdated versions! ??

I’ll migrate a site with more than 3GB. So I have to do everything manually!

https://github.com/inpsyde/backwpup The version is on beta testing and has a switsch to disable the limit.

    Thank you very much!

Taking the opportunity, will have some version that supports OneDrive?

@daniel: Thanks for giving the option to remove the 2GB limit (been waiting for this for some time) but I can’t seem to find the option to disable it? Can you point me in the right direction please?
