• Hi there Nelio Software,

I’m evaluating your software and a killer feature for us would be to run it locally on a dev box. Is it possible?
We have an A record that points to 127.0.0.1 to standardize it among our developers but whenever we try to activate the plugin it says “Backend is not available”.
In production it installed fine but it really breaks our workflow to deploy things “straight in production”.
What’s your advice for a development team that develops locally and deploys WP using capistrano?

    Thank you in advance,
    Leo

    Hi Iccro,

First of all, thanks for your interest in our service. Unfortunately, our plugin relies on having access to our backend servers to manage your experiments (start, stop, create, delete…), as well as checking you’re a legitimate user, of course. If your development installation does not have access to the outside (that is, if our plugin cannot perform get/post requests to our servers), Nelio A/B Testing won’t work at all.

Regarding capistrano, I have to be honest: I’ve never used it. Therefore, I’m afraid I cannot help you here either. Is capistrano used to deploy files only, or can it also deploy database changes?

Understood. So the problem is different than I thought.
Every dev box has access to the internet, it’s the other way around that is not available (connecting from the internet to our personal boxes).
So the activation should be working fine? It isn’t.

Since you don’t know about capistrano, forget about, it’ll only make a simple issue more complex ??

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Well then, if they have access to the Internet, you should have no problems at all. I understand you can add your e-mail address and registration number, but when you try to access your account it fails… is it?

If you want, please send me an e-mail (customers at nelio software dot com) with your subscription details and I’ll take a look at our backend registers, just to make sure nothing’s amiss there.

    Thanks!

For the future generations, this solved my problem:

Thanks Nelio Software in helping me track this one down.

Glad to hear! And thanks for the information; in the end, you found the solution by yourself!
