    Ajay,

Hi. I’ve been using Héctor Cabrera’s ‘wordpress-popular-posts’ plugin for awhile until a week ago when GoDaddy unilaterally and without notice blacklisted it on the Managed WP hosting package I use.

    See GoDaddy statement here:

    Godaddy Blacklisted Plugins

Here is the support thread over at Héctor’s plugin page:

    WPP Support

I know you can’t see the future but I thought you might be able to comment – especially if your plugin uses stats from within the hosting server.

    Regards
    Marty

    Hi Marty,

I followed the thread that you pointed me to. I agree it’s a bit shocking that GoDaddy blocked the plugin suddenly.

Unfortunately, Top 10 works along the same lines as Héctor’s plugin by recording hits to the database. If it’s a super high-traffic site, I am sure there might be an issue.

That being said, I would like to believe Top 10 is used on some high traffic sites, but I believe most are running off dedicated servers.

Personally, I wouldn’t host with a provider that doesn’t let me to run something as basic as plugins (unless they are a security risk).

I do like the idea of sampling which makes a lot of sense, but it’s also something that requires some amount of coding and testing. Plus I’m not sure yet how to record hits without actually writing to the DB.

    Ajay,

Hi. Many thanks for your reply and weighing in on the matter.

The way that Godaddy went about this is par for the course with them IMHO.

They are under new management since Bob Parsons sold a bunch of his interest but it sure seems like they keep lumbering on with their lack of customer focus.

Anyways thanks for letting me know about your plugin’s way of operating.

I guess I will have to look at using a WP Jetpack powered option.

    Marty,

I’d love that you would use my plugin, but I believe the stress at GoDaddy and few others is to take the load off your server and into some other teams server.

JetPack has a pretty good statistics plugin that I use in conjunction with Top 10. However, it also had a tonne of other modules you might want to disable.

Benefit is that it pushes the load onto JetPack’s servers. As Héctor mentioned, it does mean that you might have to compromise on many features.

Thanks for the heads up on the JetPack modules.

I’d like to use what I want to use also but there sure seems like there is always someone telling you what you are not allowed to do… ??

    Thanks again.

    Ha ha. very true indeed.

I’ve got a managed VPS with Future Hosting. It’s a general VPS, not focussed on WordPress only. So, I don’t have any restrictions as long as I don’t bring the server down!
