• Hi All,

This is the first WordPress website I am trying to build from scratch. I use WordPress at work but only altering pages etc.

I am trying to upload a Theme to my wordpress site, theme is Flexform.

I have purchased the theme, downloaded the zip file to my desktop and tried uploading it to my theme area.

It gets to 100% complete and flicks onto the next screen which is a 404 server error.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Do I need to contact my hosting company?

    Thanks

  • what is the url that you are directed to that returns a 404 error? (feel free to replace your actual domain name with example.com)

I get this page now, its changed from a 404 error to this. https://www.geoffdunning.co.uk/wp-admin/update.php?action=upload-theme

I have also tried dropping the zipped file in the Theme section in FTP and it still doesn’t appear in the Theme section of wordpress.

    I have purchased the theme

Then you should be contacting the theme’s developer for support. See this from the Forum Welcome for an explanation ??

    Ok Thank you.

There can be another issue. When we buy any theme, it comes in a bundled package which contains theme files, documentation and at times few psd files.
If you are trying to upload the zip file which you got after purchasing then it is not going to work. For example, if you got flexform.zip then try unziping it in your PC and if you find another flexform.zip inside it or just a simple(uncompressed) folder named as ‘flexform’ then this is the one which you need to upload. Actual theme folder is the one which has all the .php template files and css file for your theme.

Please check and let me know if this is the problem. I will explain it further.

    Best of luck.
